The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has announced its first list of 143 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, set to take place on November 6 and 11, with results to be declared on November 14. Tejashwi Yadav will contest from the Raghopur constituency, a significant seat for the Yadav family, previously held by his father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, and mother, Rabri Devi. Tejashwi aims for a third consecutive term in this stronghold.

The candidate list includes 24 women and reflects the party's focus on representing Backward Classes and minorities. Notable candidates include Bhojpuri actor Khesari Lal Yadav from Chhapra, Renu Kushwaha from Bihariganj, and Anita Devi Mahto from Warsaliganj. The RJD's strategy appears to be aimed at broadening its appeal by including grassroots leaders and youth.

However, the announcement has not been without controversy. The RJD will face off against Congress candidates in four constituencies, including Kahalgaon and Lalganj, despite being allies in the Mahagathbandhan. This has raised concerns about unity within the alliance, as both parties struggle to finalize seat-sharing arrangements.

RJD spokesperson Chittranjan Gagan addressed the dissatisfaction among party members who were not selected, stating, "If a party has a large support base and many capable workers, it is natural that several people will seek tickets. But only one can be selected." He emphasized the party's commitment to ensuring the victory of its official candidates and making Tejashwi Yadav the Chief Minister.

Meanwhile, the Congress party has also announced additional candidates, bringing its total to 61, amidst ongoing discussions about seat-sharing with the RJD. The political landscape in Bihar remains dynamic as both parties prepare for the elections, with the focus on maintaining their alliance while addressing internal challenges.
