Nizamabad: Shaik Riyaz, the prime accused in the murder of a police constable, was reportedly killed in an encounter while attempting to escape from the Government General Hospital (GGH) here on Monday.

Riyaz, aged 24, had been apprehended by the Nizamabad police on Sunday from the Sarangapur forest area after a scuffle with one Asif. Both sustained injuries and were shifted to the hospital for treatment.

While being treated on the fourth floor of the hospital, Riyaz allegedly tried to snatch the weapon of an Armed Reserve constable
