The impact of the Donald Trump administration’s tariffs has been severe on Indian textile and apparel exporters, with 34 per cent of businesses reporting that their sales revenue has reduced by half, says a survey by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI).

The United States is India’s top export market, accounting for $10.8 billion or 30 per cent of all textile and apparel exports from the country. The Trump administration has imposed a 25 per cent additional tariff and a 25 per cent penalty, effectively a 50 per cent tariff, on exports from India to the US, significantly undermining the competitiveness of Indian textile and apparel exports.
