An elderly driver has been rushed to hospital after losing control of their vehicle and crashing through a fence into a backyard swimming pool.

The dramatic incident unfolded just after 2.30pm when the car smashed through the family’s property in Mount Druitt, in Sydney’s west, driving straight through the backyard and crashing directly into the pool.

In a heroic act, the homeowner ran through broken glass, cutting his feet in the process, before jumping into the pool to rescue the elderly man from the submerged vehicle.

The elderly driver was taken to hospital following the rescue, while the homeowner has since returned to assess the extensive damage to his property.
