ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A child was airlifted to an Atlanta hospital after being hit by a vehicle in Newnan on Sunday, according to police.

Around 2:30 p.m., Newnan police said they responded to a pedestrian hit by a car on Roberts Road, near the popular LINC biking and walking trail.

A spokesperson for the city said an 11-year-old boy was hit. He was flown by helicopter to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta with serious injuries.

Witnesses said the child had been biking when he was hit at a crosswalk.

“We heard a big boom, I mean, a boom sound. So we went and looked, you know, ran to the end of the driveway,” said Toya Carter, who lives with her 11-year-old son in the neighborhood where it happened.
