VALPARAISO, Neb. (KOLN) - The Saunders County Sheriff’s Office said two people are dead following a two-vehicle crash just before 11 p.m. Saturday.
Authorities said a call came in around 10:47 p.m. about a head-on accident on Highway 79 near W. South St. in Valparaiso.
The preliminary investigation shows a 2006 Pontiac driven by 19-year-old Austin Walla was driving north on Highway 79 when he veered off to the right of the road, overcorrected, and then swerved left, colliding with a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by 48-year-old Trina Christensen when Walla re-entered the roadway.
Walla was declared dead at the scene. Christensen was transported by helicopter to a hospital where she later died.
