MANCHESTER, Conn. — Hartford Healthcare has won the bid to purchase Manchester Memorial Hospital and Rockville General Hospital, concluding a drawn-out process that included other suitors, a major security breach, and a bankruptcy for the parent company.
In a ruling by the federal bankruptcy court in Texas, a subsidiary of Hartford Healthcare, ECHN Holdings, was selected as the high bidder and will acquire the two hospitals and related services of the Eastern Connecticut Health Network, which operated Manchester and Rockville hospitals.
The current owner, Prospect Medical Holdings, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January. The Los Angeles-based company owns Waterbury Hospital. Last month, UConn Health submitted a bid to purchase that hospital.
