The Alaska Mining Hall of Fame Foundation will explore two historic mining figures during a free public lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at its museum, 406 Cushman St., next to McCafferty’s Coffee Shop in Fairbanks.
Author Rose Rybachek will discuss her two new books, “Joe Vogler: Alaskan Patriot” and “The Man With Gold Nuggets in His Pocket: Roger Burggraf.”
Rybachek’s first book explores the life and death of Vogler, founder of the Alaskan Independence Party and longtime miner who vanished in 1993 shortly before he was scheduled to speak at the United Nations. Her second book profiles Roger Burggraf, a Cornell graduate who came to Alaska in the 1950s, worked in banking before turning to mining in 1971, and recently donated his gold nugget collection to the University of Alaska Mus
