The Fairbanks Igloos of the Pioneers of Alaska hosted a unique Alaska Day celebration on Saturday at Cleary Creek, north of Fox, at the spot where Felix Pedro discovered gold in 1902.

The Pioneers set up an inviting display at Pedro’s historic claim at Mile 16.5 Steese Highway. It included three campfires and an array of delectable slow cooker dishes to choose from. There were also plenty of hot drinks served, adding to the ambiance of the campfire dining.

A small wall tent was set up with a sign designating it as Felix Pedro’s Discovery Camp. Inside was a display of interesting items to view, along with a copy of Felix Pedro’s original location notice for his Pedro Creek discovery claim.
