STARK COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - A Lake High School senior was seriously injured during Friday’s football game against Hoover High School.

Lake Local Schools Athletic Director Brock Cline said Justin Landes lacerated his right kidney during a play in the third quarter.

Landes was evaluated on-site by sports medicine staff from both schools before being transported by EMS to Akron Children’s Hospital, said Cline.

According to Cline, Landes underwent surgery Saturday to address the laceration and the internal bleeding; however, during surgery the team found an additional kidney laceration that could not be fixed during that procedure.

Landes remains hospitalized in stable condition while the medical team determines what to do next.
