SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- The Great Plains has announced the name of their snow leopard cub.

Asha (pronounced “AH-shah”), meaning hope or wish in Nepalese, was the winner of the naming competition. The other names voters could choose were Isha, meaning goddess or ruler, or Maiya, meaning little girl or dear one.

All names come from the Nepalese language where snow leopards primarily live.

Voters could pay $5 for one vote or $20 for five votes. All proceeds from the voting process went to helping maintain the care of the snow leopards at the Great Plain Zoo.

Asha was born to parents, Denali and Strut, in late May.
