SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- A Sioux Falls man, previously known for killing cats, has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of Animal Cruelty.

Cory Martinson was on probation for a 2024 Brookings County conviction of animal cruelty. Due to that conviction, he was prohibited from possessing or residing with any animals, a violation that he broke.

In July 2024, Martinson took temporary possession of 7-8 cats from someone on Facebook Marketplace who was looking for someone to watch them.

Martinson surrendered two cats to the Sioux Falls Humane Society who were so injured, they had to be euthanized. The remaining cats were never found and presumed to have died under Martinson's care. He later admitted to killing four of them.
