URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) -- The University of Illinois Police Department has announced an arrest in the investigation of a shooting in Campustown over the weekend.

In a news release, UIPD officials said an 18-year-old from Urbana was arrested for the role he allegedly played in the Oct. 18 shooting. At approximately 12:28 a.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire at Fifth and Green Streets and they found a male victim with gunshot wounds. He was seriously hurt and needed surgery, but he is alive.

Witness statements indicated the shooting happened after a verbal altercation between multiple people. The victim was not affiliated with the university.
