Prince Andrew will keep one royal title, thanks to his mom.

Despite announcing Oct. 17 he would no longer be known as the Duke of York , King Charles III 's brother—who has stirred controversy over his past ties to late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein —will still be called...Prince Andrew.

"He will keep his title of prince," royal expert Sharon Carpenter exclusively explained to E! News, "which was given to him at birth by his mother Queen Elizabeth II ."

Andrew will also still technically be a duke. "For Andrew to be legally stripped of his dukedom before his death," Carpenter said, "it would require statutory action—a vote by Parliament."
