RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Nico Rivera appeared in Richmond City Circuit Court today for a plea hearing involving the death of 27-year-old Jacob Baldwin.
Rivera was initially charged with the second-degree murder of Baldwin after an altercation in Scott's Addition near West Marshall and North Sheppard streets in October 2024.
During the altercation, Rivera punched Baldwin, knocking him to the ground and causing him to hit the back of his head on the pavement. Baldwin died at the hospital days later.
Rivera's charge has since been amended from second degree murder to involuntary manslaughter.
On Monday, Oct. 20, Rivera pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter as part of a judge-approved plea agreement that would reduce his sentence.
Rivera is set to be sentenced in March 2026.
