BOARDMAN A Boardman man was the target of an alleged phony call from a scammer posing as a deputy with the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office.
According to a police report, the man received a call from a "No Caller ID" number around 12:30 a.m. Monday. Police say the caller identified himself as "Deputy Burns" with the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office and provided him with a badge number.
Police say the alleged scammer told the man that he needed to be placed on an ankle monitor due to a case he was put on probation for. The man told police he received no prior notice about needing to be on an ankle monitor.
