Football games for the New Orleans Saints and other events along the Gulf Coast have interest in Amtrak’s revived rail line between Mobile and New Orleans high, according to the latest ridership figures.

From the time the first train of the Mardi Gras Service rolled out of Mobile after a 20-year hiatus on Monday, Aug. 18, to the end of September, roughly 19,000 people purchased tickets and rode to Mobile, Bay Saint Louis, Biloxi, Gulfport, Pascagoula or New Orleans, for an average of more than 105 people on each of the two trains, numbers provided by the Southern Rail Commission state.
