PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- After previously announcing that construction would begin in 2028 to make the Burnside Bridge earthquake ready, the project has now been pushed back citing "ongoing federal uncertainty."
On Monday, Multnomah County officials announced that the construction will be pushed back until federal funding becomes available, however the project is being delayed entirely, work is still continuing on the design process.
According to the county, completing the design now will ensure that the project is construction-ready as soon as the funding is available.
Margi Bradway, Director of the Multnomah County Department of Community Services, said that as soon as the federal government is "ready to invest in our region again," they will be ready to begin work.
