CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- The chess community is mourning the unexpected passing of Grandmaster Daniel Naroditsky, who died at the age of 29.

Naroditsky was known as a prominent chess player, commentator, and educator who inspired fans through his games, videos, and teaching.

The Naroditsky family shared the news in a statement released through the Charlotte Chess Center, where Daniel had been a leading figure since moving to Charlotte in 2020.

"It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Daniel Naroditsky," the family wrote. "Daniel was a talented chess player, commentator, and educator, and a cherished member of the chess community, admired and respected by fans and players around the world.
