Several people wept Monday in a packed Sarnia courtroom as the mother of the late David Oliver spoke about the grief, pain and fear with which she’s dealt since her son was killed five years ago in Kettle and Stony Point First Nation.

“I know I’ll never be the same as I was before David was murdered,” Carla Oliver said.

Then, she turned her attention to the man sitting in the prisoner’s box, who was only 16 when he shot her son point blank twice in the head in the summer of 2020 with no known motive.

“Our family was completely in shock when we were told you had committed this crime,” Carla Oliver said.
