Health officials are warning of person-to-person, community spread of a type of mpox infection that’s spread through close contact and caused by the monkeypox virus.
The California Department of Public Health said health officials have identified three unrelated cases of clade I mpox among Los Angeles County residents without a history of recent international travel. Prior cases of clade I mpox in the United States and California, one of two types of the infection, were associated with international travel to areas where it was circulating, the CDPH said.
“These cases indicate that person-to-person community spread of clade I mpox is occurring in California, primarily impacting communities of gay and bisexual men, and other men who have sex with men, as well as their social network
