AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) - The Richmond County Sheriff's Office announced Monday that one of its deputies has been terminated and arrested following an investigation.

According to the sheriff's office on Oct. 20, Diana Santiago, who had been an employee of RCSO since May 2020, was brought in for questioning in connection with a criminal investigation at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Santiago was then charged with Violation of Oath of Office, Conspiracy to Purchase or Possess a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Street Gang Activity and booked into the Charles B. Webster Detention Center.

The sheriff's office said the investigation remains ongoing.

Sheriff Eugene Brantley released the following statement on Santiago's arrest and termination, which was effective immediately:
