WHEATON, Ill. (WGN) — Three suburban men are facing felony charges after authorities say they conspired to impersonate peace officers while traveling to multiple political protests last weekend.
Jonathan Capp, 22, of Wheaton, Andrew Knight, 24, of Darien, and Cole Sarros, 26, of Woodridge, were each charged with conspiracy to commit false personation of a peace officer and unlawful possession of ammunition without a FOID card.
They appeared in DuPage County court Monday and were released pre-trial because the charges are non-detainable offenses.
Prosecutors say on Oct. 18 at around 3:20 p.m., the men allegedly agreed to “dress like peace officers” by wearing tactical or ballistic vests to appear as law enforcement while heading to political protests.
