For the first time in 12 years, Michigan has a men’s basketball preseason All-American. Yaxel Lendeborg was named to the AP’s five-man All-America team Monday. He’s the first Wolverine to earn the honor since Mitch McGary before the 2013-14 season.
Lendeborg, who stuffed the stat sheet the past two seasons at UAB, is expected to do great things at Michigan. The 6-foot-9 forward had an impressive debut in Michigan’s first exhibition game.
Lendeborg received a vote from 30 of the 57 media members on the panel. His fellow All-Americans include Big Ten preseason player of the year and Purdue point guard Braden Smith, a unanimous selection; Texas Tech’s J.T. Toppin (52 votes); BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa (22); and Florida’s Alex Condon.
