BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Representative Fedorchak addressed farmer concerns over the bridge payment and new markets Monday.
In early October, Senator John Hoeven confirmed that the Trump administration is working on a financial aid package of over $10 billion for struggling farmers, and that it will be finalized after the shutdown. The administration is also actively working on finding new markets, such as South Korea.
Experts and some farmers remain skeptical, since China was such a dominant consumer in the soybean space and can’t be easily replaced. Any transitions would take a long time and would fall short of China’s original consumption. They also criticize the bridge program for not helping farmers break even.
