AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - The Lone Star Conference released preseason rankings for men’s and women’s basketball Monday, with West Texas A&M’s Lady Buffs earning a fourth-place prediction and the men’s team picked to finish fifth.

Women’s conference predictions

Head coach Josh Prock’s Lady Buffs received the higher ranking of the two programs, garnering six first-place votes.

Star guard Kyla Kane, a Wellington graduate heading into her senior year, was named preseason player of the year.

The Lady Buffs finished 19-13 last season and return several key players including Hollie Stalder, Taylor Haggan and Taytum Bell.

Texas Woman’s University topped the women’s preseason poll with 20 first-place votes and 810 team points. Former Canyon Lady Eagle Jaylee Moss will suit up for the preseason
