MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) -The community will have the chance to weigh in on county budget decisions. One topic of concern is whether there will be cuts to the sheriff’s office.

Dane County faces a $31 million budget deficit. The county’s board said they will have to make cuts in order to stay afloat.

District 6 supervisor Yogesh Chawla said some of those cuts will have to come from the sheriff’s office. “There are decisions and tough decisions that have to be made, but this is not a this or that solution,” Sheriff Kalvin Barrett said.

Chawla said every department was asked to make cuts.

“Rather, they made a disproportionate budget cut to the Health and Human Services Department,” Chawla said.
