MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – The Minot City Council on Monday voted 4-3 to keep the city’s current liquor license cap in place.

The council was considering four main options: keep the cap in place, lift it altogether, or two alternatives that involved lifting the cap and offering financial incentives to current holders.

Several bar owners and employees spoke before the council during a public hearing, sharing concerns over the impact of lifting the cap.

Council members Rob Fuller, Lisa Olson and Scott Samuelson and Mayor Mark Jantzer voted in favor of keeping the current cap.

Members Mike Blessum, Paul Pitner and Mike Hayes voted against, hoping the council would consider alternative options.

We’ll have more on the discussion over liquor licenses this week.
