The families of a mother, son and his visiting friend killed in a house fire say their lives have been "forever changed" by the tragedy.

Jordana Johnson, 36, her son Jordan Norris, and his friend who was sleeping over, Chazz Mather, both aged 12, died in a central Queensland house fire last Wednesday morning .

Authorities were called to the blaze in the Gladstone suburb of Toolooa just before 6am but the top floor of the two-story home collapsed minutes after their arrival, hampering search efforts.

Gladstone MP Glenn Butcher shared a joint statement from the families on his social media on Tuesday morning.
