CLEVELAND, Ala. ( WBRC ) - An 18-year-old cheerleader from Cleveland High School is fighting for her life after being shot during a party in Jefferson County.
Family members of Kimber Mills say doctors have only given her days to live .
Mills is one of four people shot at the gathering. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said 27-year-old Steven Whitehead is in jail, charged in connection with the shooting.
Another victim, 21-year-old Silas McCay, said he was shot 10 times while trying to protect others from the suspect.
“I look at her like a little sister to me. I tried everything I could. I wish there was more I could’ve done,” McCay said.
McCay said he’s known Mills for several years. McCay, along with Mills and other friends, would get together every weekend.
