KAUAI, Hawaii (Island News) – A man has died following a kayak-related incident that happened in the waters near Lucy Wright Beach Park in Waimea, Kauai.
The incident occurred on Saturday, Oct. 18, at approximately 6 p.m. after reports of a body floating near the shoreline of Waimea River.
Kauai Fire Department (KFD) crews responded to the scene and brought the person to shore. Medics then began lifesaving measures but were unable to resuscitate them.
The person, later identified as 60-year-old Angel Tapia, was taken to the Wilcox Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
According to witnesses, Tapia may have been impaired at the time and was offshore in a kayak when a wave capsized the vessel.
