RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Neighbors in upper Richland County are voicing opposition to a proposed rezoning that would convert 80 acres of land from agricultural to heavy industrial use. Many residents say the change could bring noise, traffic, and a potential landfill expansion too close to their homes.

Along Montgomery Road, signs have been placed notifying the community about the proposed change.

Residents like Patsy Pathel say they’re worried about how it could impact their quality of life. “We don’t want the noise or the traffic or the dump trucks,” Pathel said.

The proposed site sits near the existing Richland County landfill, leading some homeowners to fear that the rezoning could pave the way for a landfill expansion.
