SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — AT&T is changing their landline services. Several communities in East Tennessee, especially those in the mountains rely on landlines. In these so called "dead zones" people have little cellular or internet services or none at all.
William and Sandy Phillips live in the mountains of Sevier County. While they have a cell phone, it doesn't work in or near their home.
"You can maybe get cell phone service three or five miles from where you live, but then that might be a short distance and then you might go into another area that doesn't have cell phone signal," William Phillips said.
They rely on their landline to keep in touch with friends and family, get notices on things like prescriptions and in dire situations to contact emergency services.
