POWELL, Tenn. — The family of a young Powell teen is hosting an event Wednesday to honor her memory and bring the community together.

On Oct. 22, 2024, 13-year-old Savannah Grace Copeland lost her life . Investigators said a 15-year-old acquaintance was responsible for her death.

For Savannah’s family, the last year has been filled with unimaginable loss. But her father, Michael Copeland, is finding ways to turn darkness into light.

“When you are consumed with darkness, it seems the only way to fight that is to fight it back with light,” he said.

Michael says that “light” comes in the form of grace and compassion.

“It is really important to me that we find ways to keep the anger at bay and not allow it to turn into hatred and rage, and instead fill our hearts with as much compassion
