Four Coventry businesses have been named and shamed for underpaying their staff a total of more than £20,000. Each of the city-based firms was found to have failed to pay its employees the legal minimum wage.

Around 5,000 people in the West Midlands were underpaid by their employers, including major retailers such as Holland and Barrett. Companies found to have broken the law have been fined more than £1m.

Over £600,000 has been repaid to underpaid staff in the West Midlands. Nearly 500 UK-based firms were found to have breached wage obligations and fined a combined £10.2m.

The companies were all named in a new government list .

Allsopp and Allsopp Limited in Coventry was found to have underpaid 21 staff more than £14,000. Ballicom Limited underpaid seven employees by over £1,500
