Six Derbyshire businesses have been fined after they failed to pay their employees the minimum wage. This comes as the Government published a list of almost 500 employers who underpaid their workers.

Across the UK, around 42,000 workers have been repaid by their employers, with them receiving fines totalling £10.2 million for breaking the rules. Employers can be fined up to 200% of what they underpaid by, with the fine being determined by HMRC on a case-to-case basis..

Underpayments took place as far back as 2013, with investigations for these cases concluding between 2018 and 2023. Business Secretary Peter Kyle said: "Every worker deserves a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work, and this government will not tolerate rogue employers who short-change their staff.
