MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Merced councilman is stepping down from his role a year before his term is set to expire.

The city annouced Monday that District Two Councilmember Ronnie DeAnda will resign Oct. 31.

"Councilmember De Anda has served our city with care and dedication, both through his work on the council and his many years as a trusted mail carrier. His commitment to Merced’s families, youth, and neighborhoods has made a lasting difference," the city said.

The council will officially declare his seat vacant on Nov. 3.

According to the city, DeAnda was initially set to serve the district through November 2026.
