After being in a collision, a woman has died after being struck by a second vehicle on Interstate 40 in New Hanover County.
Vilma Clay, 71, of Cameron, died after being struck by a vehicle on I-40 on Oct. 15, according to a news release from N.C. State Highway Patrol. An investigation found that Clay's vehicle was traveling the wrong way on the interstate when she collided with another vehicle. Highway Patrol was dispatched to the scene at approximately 9:16 p.m.
Clay's vehicle was heading west, straddling the fog line on the right side of the eastbound lanes, according to the release. After the impact, both vehicles ran off the road onto the right shoulder and came to a rest.
