WXIN/WTTV -- A new study shows Millennials spend more on sports fan-related activities than any other generation.

Ally Bank’s The Cost of Fandom survey shows the average Millennial spends $2,050 a year on being a sports fan. That’s higher than the average Gen-Z fan, who spends an average $1,550 per year.

While the bulk of that money goes toward tickets to games, the spending also involves travel, team apparel, food and drinks, as well as other expenses.

The study also examined why people spend, and found differences based on gender. Women tend to favor social fandom, like gathering at friends’ homes or hosting watch parties. In general, their fandom is more about being connected to a community.
