WARREN COUNTY, Ky. — The number of farms in the United States is declining, reaching the lowest point in more than a century, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture .

However, farmers including Michelle Howell, co-owner of Need More Acres Farm, are working to reverse that statistic.

“We really want to inspire young people to farm as an occupation," Howell said. "We hope as the kids come out here, that they might start thinking about.”

Howell and her farming family are hosting field trips all week to show children all the work that goes into growing the food people eat, from planting to harvesting.

She grows around 50 fruits and vegetables throughout the year, from carrots to Brussels sprouts.
