Syracuse, N.Y. ― A Syracuse woman avoided a murder charge at her sentencing Monday after testifying against her codefendant.
Zaira Goodin, 22, was able to take back her previous guilty plea to second-degree murder and instead was sentenced to 10 years in prison for a gun charge. Her original plea deal on the murder charge called for her to get no more than 15 years in prison.
Goodin and two others ― Vanico Spaights and Bernard Brumfield ― were charged with killing A’salic Parham , 25 in a drive-by shooting on Dec. 28, 2020.
Goodin pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in December 2022. She was offered the chance to later withdraw her plea to murder if she testified for the prosecution.
