Macdonald Hotels, a luxury chain, fell into the red after being ordered to pay a substantial legal bill following a lost case against the Bank of Scotland.
The hotel group had taken legal action against the Scottish subsidiary of Lloyds Bank, alleging that it was "seriously wronged" by the lender which resulted in it losing out on millions of pounds, as reported by City AM .
Donald Macdonald, the chairman and founder of the company, initiated legal proceedings against the Bank of Scotland , now part of the Lloyds Banking Group, in May 2023.
The lawsuit claimed that the group was compelled to sell several hotels at below-market rates due to pressure from the bank to decrease its borrowings.
