The former mayor of Fall River, Will Flanagan, was stabbed near the cannabis dispensary he owns on Monday evening and left seriously injured.

The stabbing happened at around 5 p.m. on Hartwell Street in Fall River, according to the city’s police department .

Flanagan was found with “significant injuries,” the department said. According to The Herald News , Flanagan had multiple stab injuries to his neck.

He was brought by first responders to a nearby hospital and was in serious but stable condition on Monday night, police said.

The incident was under active investigation as of Monday evening, as the department continued work to identify the suspect in the attack.

Flanagan served as mayor of Fall River from 2010 to 2014 and later became the CEO of Cosmopolitan Dispensary at 82 Ha
