An arrest has been made in connection with the stabbing of the former mayor of Fall River, Massachusetts, on Monday , police say.

Officers responded to multiple calls Monday afternoon reporting a stabbing on Hartwell Street, finding Will Flanagan suffering from "significant injuries," the Fall River Police Department said. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was in serious but stable condition Monday night.

Fall River police released an update Tuesday morning saying that a person of interest in the stabbing was arrested around 8:30 a.m. The suspect is currently being processed, and police said their identity will be released once that person has been arraigned.
