A man died when his SUV crashed into a utility pole in Brandon, Vermont, early Tuesday morning, police said.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash at the intersection of Country Club and Forest Dale roads reported just before 1 a.m., Vermont State Police said.

David Fletcher, 62, was pronounced dead after being taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center, police said.

When the crash was reported, Green Mountain Power workers were performing CPR on Fletcher, who was unresponsive, police said.

Investigators believe he was driving south when his SUV went off Forest Dale Road and hit the pole, totaling the vehicle. Fletcher wasn't wearing a seat belt, according to police.
