ALLIANCE − Parents in crisis have a safe and anonymous option to surrender newborns at Fire Station No. 1 in Alliance.

A Safe Haven Baby Box was unveiled Oct. 20, giving the community a life-saving resource built on compassion and second chances.

Proud civic and community leaders stood by, their expresions reflecting gratitude and hope, as the compartment was blessed.

It is Stark County's first baby box. There are plans for two more.

"This has been a longtime coming for us," a smiling Fire Chief Jason Hunt said during a ceremony with the box behind him.

The entire cost of the box, about $25,000, was funded by individual and group donations from across the region and multiple states.
