Former President Barack Obama and Emmy winning actor Kelsey Grammer have weighed in on the New Jersey Governor's race.
Obama endorsed Rep. Mikie Sherrill, D-NJ, in an ad that debuted Friday, Oct. 17, calling his "friend" the "right choice" to lead the Garden State.
"Mikie is a mom, who will drive down costs for New Jersey families," Obama said. "As a federal prosecutor and former Navy helicopter pilot, she worked to keep our community safe. Mikie's integrity, grit and commitment to service are what we need in our leaders right now."
The former president is no stranger to New Jersey gubernatorial races, campaigning for Gov. Phil Murphy in 2017 and 2021.
On Monday, Oct. 20, Ciattarelli debuted an ad with Grammer, who lived in Colonia and Highlands as a child. Grammer said Ciattarelli will lead with strength, decency and respect.
"This last decade or so it seems we lost our way," Grammer said. "Taxes keep climbing, crime is on the rise, Trenton is filled with politicians talking big and doing nothing. It's time to lower taxes and let families breathe again. It's time to protect our girls and preserve fairness in women's sports. It's time to make New Jersey safe again."
Grammer also said Ciattarelli would stop overdevelopment, cut energy bills and restore integrity and pride in Trenton.
Both candidates are doing all they can to to get out the vote and build enthusiasm among their bases as polls continue to show a close race with Sherrill having a slim lead. A recent pole from Change NJ, a PAC supporting Ciattarelli, has Sherrill leading 47% to 44%.
