A Kent County K9 dog took off on solo trek recently, and even tangled with a porcupine, before an alert resident saw the animal and it was reunited with his officer near Irons, Michigan.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office said K9 Soka got loose from its handler in Irons on Sunday, Oct. 19. Soka was found Monday, Kent County authorities said in a post on Facebook.

"Our sneaky little guy is back in custody!" the sheriff's office said. He was found about 4.5 miles away from where he escaped.

Officers say the German shorthair mix appears healthy, aside from a few porcupine needles, and will be taken to a veterinarian for evaluation.

Soka is trained in narcotics detection, and is collared and microchipped. The dog was found by a local resident in Irons, about 33 miles from Cadillac.
