NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The federal government shutdown could soon leave thousands of Louisiana families without critical food assistance. The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services warns that November SNAP benefits could be delayed or unavailable, putting pressure on households already struggling with rising food costs.

Second Harvest Food Bank serves 23 parishes across South Louisiana and says it’s already seeing an increase in families reaching out for help, including federal employees who have missed paychecks. With the potential loss of SNAP benefits, the nonprofit is preparing for an even greater demand.
