FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY) - The top law enforcer in Fond du Lac County is looking to become the top cop in the state.

Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney announced he’s running for Wisconsin Attorney General in the 2026 election.

Toney said he had a revelation after open-heart surgery two years ago.

“That clarity led me here: If I could still make a difference for Wisconsin, I would,” he said in announcing his candidacy. “After seven years of broken promises and political spin in the Attorney General’s office, it’s time for change.”

This is Toney’s second run for the office. He lost to Josh Kaul, the incumbent attorney general, in 2022.
